John Wesley Van Hoose

JOHN WESLEY VANHOOSE son of WILLIAM (BILLY) and MINERVA BARNHART was born August 26, 1848 in Johnson Co., Kentucky. He married SARAH E BALDWIN. She was born January 03, 1853.

   

The following is taken from "History of Johnson County, Kentucky" by Mitchel Hall, 1928

"Elder T.J. Riggs, a native of West Virginia, was the paramount minister in the early Missionary Baptist Movement, notwithstanding other Baptist preachers aided in the work, among whom should be mentioned H. G. Reynolds, Marion Reynolds, J. W. VanHoose, and Henry Daniel."

According to Charles Parson's book, he was converted while in his teens and became a preacher of the Gospel. He became affiliated with the Baptists, exerting strong influence on the Baptist in Johnson and Lawrence County.

John lived in Johnson, Lawrence and Carter County, Kentucky.
