JOHN
VANHOOSER
the son of
Johannes (John) Vanhoesen/VanHooser
and Elizabeth Christia
Laux/Loucks was born 1723
in Claverick,Albany Co.,NY,
and died October 1770 in
Anson County,North
Carolina.
He married HANNAH
CHEEK February 16, 1746 in
Lancaster Co. PA.
She was born 1727
in Anson County,North
Carolina.
Per:
Charles Parson's book
"The Van Hoose
Family"
For
reasons unknown dropped
the "r" from his
name. The following
excerpt from a
biographical
sketch
on Azor VanHoose
(b.-1818-d-?) should be of
interest.
Several generations ago,
three brothers bearing the
name VanHooser, came over
from Holland
and settled in western New
York.
A misunderstanding
between them induced one
of their number
to determine, that he
would forever distinguish
himself and his family
from the others and their
descendents,
by dropping the final
"r" from their
common patronymic. Thus
the single name was
parted
into two; and it has been
further divided by the use
of the capital in writing
the "H".
Per:
Joyce Lindstrom's Book
In
1763 he was executor of
his father's will. On Jan
19,1765 he granted some of
his father's
land to John Hagler, who
married his youngest
sister, Elizabeth.
On Sept 21,1769, he
granted
more of his father's land
to William Collson or
Collins who may have been
related to his
younger sister Mary
through marriage.
This
branch of the Van Hooser
family dropped the final
"r" from their
surname and created
the
new surname "Van
Hoose"
