Johannes (John) VanHoesen/Vanhooser Jr. was was born August 01, 1697 in Kingston, Ulster, N.Y., and died 1763 in Anson Co.,NC.  He married ELIZABETH CHRISTIA LAUX/LOUCKS April 11, 1720 in Lancaster Co. PA.  She was born 1700 in Eppstein,Hessna,Prussa, and died in Anson Co.,NC.

Johannes (John)  Van Hoesen, was the first man to take on the surname Van Hooser. The change in the surname came through an English interpretation of the name, which changed the spelling first to Van Hoosen and then, since the "n" looked like an "r" when written, it was altered to the name it is today.

John grew up at Claverack, and when he was 13 years of age, a group of Palatine Germans settled the area south of Claverack at Tar Bush and East Camp. Among them was a young, orphaned girl, Elizabeth Christine Laux, whom John fell in love with. They were married April 11, 1720, they remained in this area for the next eight years.

In 1728 John and Elizabeth along with their 3 children left the area of Livingston Manor and settled at Tulepehocken,Pennsylvania,in the vicinity of what is now called Robesonia.

Johannes (John) took up land on what was called the William Allen Tract in Heidelberg Township. Here he remained until his family was all born and most of them had grown to maturity. When his second son, Valentine moved to North Carolina, he decided to move too.

On the 5th day of April 1753, he sold his land to John Derr and Henry Boyer and at the age of 56 he moved to North Carolina and settled in Arson County.
